2023 RAM 3500 PROMASTER HIGH ROOF

Published on Sep 29, 2023 by SEAN FARNHAM

The gasoline 2023 Ram ProMaster pairs a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with a nine-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Stellantis published 276 horsepower and 250 lb-ft for this combination. The earlier six-speed transmission, 305-horsepower and 269-lb-ft statements on this page were incorrect.

The source is Stellantis' 2023 ProMaster announcement. It also describes multiple roof and length configurations. A used-van purchase needs the exact configuration, not a single capacity number applied to every 3500.

Evaluate how the previous installation affects your next use

A former delivery van, a contractor's shelved van and a passenger conversion may present different inspection questions. Record the installed equipment and ask what modifications were made. Check how shelves, partitions, electrical accessories and roof-mounted items are secured and whether their instructions are available.

Look for unused mounting holes, poorly protected wiring and signs that equipment was removed. Those observations are reasons for a qualified inspection, not a diagnosis from a photograph. Include any necessary removal or repair work in your purchase comparison.

Test the loading routine with representative equipment

Measure the door opening, cargo length and usable width after interior equipment is accounted for. Operate the side and rear doors and inspect locks, seals and hinges. A door that hesitates or does not latch properly needs evaluation rather than an assumption that a simple adjustment will fix it.

For frequent loading stops, compare where tools are accessed and how cargo is secured. Keep passageways and required exits clear. Use the vehicle and equipment manufacturers' instructions for mounting and load restraint.

Separate available features from installed ones

The 2023 announcement distinguishes standard and optional equipment. Do not assume adaptive cruise control, lane assistance or a particular camera arrangement is installed on every used van. Match the factory record and actual controls, and verify any subscription-dependent services before treating them as included.

Have the air conditioning, heating, charging outlets and other systems demonstrated. Check the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup and ask for the relevant maintenance and repair records.

Use a complete purchase comparison

Compare purchase price, government charges, insurance, documented immediate work and the cost of adapting the interior. Verify the completed van's applicable weight limits. The size of an empty cargo area is not a guarantee that it can carry every load that physically fits.

The FTC recommends independent inspection and careful review of the written terms. A vehicle-history report and a clean-looking body are not substitutes for an examination of the van you intend to buy.

Can I use a newer model's specifications for a 2023 van?

Use the correct model-year information and actual equipment. Do not transfer a newer feature, rating or warranty to an older vehicle without documentation.
