The 2026 Compass has a published output advantage over the 1.5L Bronco Sport, but not over every Bronco Sport engine. Jeep lists 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft for Compass. Ford lists 180 horsepower and 200 lb-ft for its 1.5L engine; the Bronco Sport Badlands has a different 2.0L engine with higher output.
That makes the Compass a relevant alternative for shoppers comparing regular Bronco Sport configurations. At Seth Wadley CDJR of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, our recommendation is to match actual engines and packages instead of treating a model name as one specification.
Keep the base-engine comparison accurate
The figures are from Jeep's 2026 Compass capability information and Ford's 2026 Bronco Sport specifications. Compass's advantage over the 1.5L Ford is 20 horsepower and 21 lb-ft, using these published figures.
Ford lists its 2.0L Badlands engine at 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. It would be misleading to claim the Compass exceeds that output. Decide which Ford configuration you are considering before assigning an advantage.
Compare the package you will actually use
Specialized off-road equipment should be evaluated separately from engine output. For example, Jeep describes certain capability features as Trailhawk-specific. Do not assign every available feature to an ordinary Compass, or apply a Badlands package to every Bronco Sport.
Write down the conditions you actually encounter. Compare an appropriate drivetrain, tire package and equipment configuration for those conditions. A dramatic off-road photo does not establish that your selected vehicle is equipped the same way.
Use a normal-road comfort test
Try the seat and driving position while parked, then compare the vehicles on an ordinary route. Evaluate visibility, controls and parking comfort. A small difference in an engine specification cannot predict which cabin or driving feel you will prefer.
Have unfamiliar systems explained before driving. Do not test limits off-road or in bad weather to settle a shopping comparison. Use the manufacturer instructions and a suitable, authorized demonstration.
Load the cargo you carry most often
Measure or bring the largest everyday item and test the useful cargo area with the required seats available. Compare the opening and access, not just whether a brochure lists a large volume.
For family use, evaluate rear-seat access with the normal passengers. If child restraints are involved, follow the applicable instructions and obtain qualified help when needed. A general SUV comparison cannot certify restraint compatibility.
Put equipment and price on the same worksheet
Compare written offers for vehicles that satisfy the same must-haves. Separate optional preferences from necessary equipment. A lower-trim price should not be compared as though it includes every feature advertised for the lineup.
For used candidates, use the correct year and actual condition. The older Compass and Bronco Sport pictured here illustrate the models; they do not certify 2026 equipment. Oklahoma and South Texas shoppers should confirm the vehicle and location before traveling to Pauls Valley.
Compass and Bronco Sport questions
Does Compass have more output than every Bronco Sport?
No. The stated advantage is over Ford's 1.5L engine, not the 2.0L Badlands engine.
Are all trail features standard on every trim?
No. Verify the package and operating requirements for the exact vehicle.
Why compare a Compass before choosing?
Its standard output and individual configuration may suit your needs without the same upgrade path.
