2026 Ram 2500 Laramie vs. Ford F-250 Lariat: Cab Equipment and Diesel Choices

Published on Oct 12, 2026 by Seth Wadley Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Pauls Valley

A Ram 2500 Laramie can give an F-250 Lariat shopper a compelling cabin-and-powertrain alternative, especially when the actual Ram includes the larger Uconnect display and upgraded audio. The comparison must distinguish factory-standard equipment from option packages and identify which Ford diesel is being quoted.

Our inventory example, reviewed October 12, 2026, is Ram 2500 Laramie D334097: a Granite Crystal crew-cab 4WD truck with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel and eight-speed automatic. Its listing identifies the Laramie Level 2 Equipment Group. No matched Ford purchase quote or side-by-side driving test was provided.

D334097 is the optioned Ram example. Its equipment should not be assumed on every Laramie.

Compare the screens and audio you would actually receive

D334097's inventory description lists a 14.4-inch Uconnect navigation touchscreen, 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio, dual wireless charging and memory functions. It also lists power-deployable running boards and leather-trimmed seating. These are substantive reasons to inspect this particular truck when the cab is where you spend long workdays.

Ford's 2026 F-250 Lariat page identifies a 12-inch SYNC 4 center display, ActiveX-trimmed front seats and eight-speaker B&O audio in its featured configuration. Ford offers additional packages, so request the actual window sticker rather than assuming the example on a website is the final truck.

This optioned Ram has a larger listed center display and a different audio package than the Ford features cited above. That does not prove it costs the same or has better sound for every listener. Compare the completed quotes and demonstrate the systems with your own navigation and audio preferences.

Cummins versus Power Stroke: show all the relevant numbers

Ram lists the 2026 high-output 6.7-liter Cummins at 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft. Ford lists its available 6.7-liter Power Stroke at 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft, and the separate high-output version at 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft.

Ram's torque figure is above the cited standard-output Ford diesel, but below Ford's high-output diesel. Ford's horsepower figures are higher. That is why a blanket claim that either engine wins every measure is not useful. A buyer who prefers the Cummins inline-six and this Ram's equipment still has a clear reason to compare it.

Review cabin equipment, trailering provisions and complete purchase terms on the actual vehicle.

Start with the loaded workday

List passengers, permanently carried tools, bed cargo and the trailer. Compare the exact vehicles' weight labels, axle and tire limits, hitch arrangement and required equipment. A diesel engine or a Laramie/Lariat badge does not establish the remaining payload of an optioned truck.

For the cab, try the controls while parked, adjust the mirrors and pedals, and check entry using the installed steps. For the bed, confirm the liner, lighting, tie-downs, hitch preparation and any planned body or toolbox. Do not assign equipment to the Ford or Ram simply because it is offered elsewhere in the model range.

When this Laramie makes the stronger personal choice

Put D334097 high on your shortlist when the Cummins powertrain, its documented Level 2 cabin and the installed convenience equipment are what you need. Keep comparing when another truck better matches your load, service arrangements, dimensions or total cost.

Ask for written out-the-door quotes and separate financing from vehicle equipment. Compare insurance, tires, fuel and maintenance using the actual duty cycle. No general brand reputation establishes a lower future repair bill or a guaranteed resale price.

Does every Laramie have a 14.4-inch screen and 17-speaker audio?

No. Those features are identified in D334097's listing and its equipment group; verify the truck being purchased.

Is the Cummins rated above every Power Stroke?

No. The figures differ by engine version, as shown above. Use the exact powertrain in both quotes.
