A 2023 Charger is a specific year and configuration
Choose a used 2023 Dodge Charger by its actual engine, drivetrain, equipment and condition, not one universal horsepower figure. The 2023 range includes different V6 and V8 configurations. A specification from a later Charger generation or a specialized SRT version should not be assigned to every 2023 car.
The official 2023 Mopar trim and engine selector is a useful cross-check for the names used in listings. Combine it with the original window sticker, VIN and current inspection findings. This article concerns the 2023 Charger sedan and does not promise that a particular vehicle is currently available.
Keep the engine family and driveline together
| Trim family | Engine to identify | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|
| SXT or GT | 3.6-liter V6. | Verify rear-wheel drive versus an available AWD configuration; the badge alone does not settle it. |
| R/T | 5.7-liter HEMI V8. | Confirm the original powertrain and any later changes. |
| Scat Pack | 6.4-liter V8. | Do not treat it as the same engine as R/T or a supercharged Hellcat. |
| SRT Hellcat variants | 6.2-liter V8; the SRT configuration has its own specification. | Verify the complete version, calibration and operating documents rather than borrowing another variant's output. |
The U.S. government 2023 Charger configuration records distinguish the V6 rear-drive and AWD versions and the V8 configurations; the corresponding records list eight-speed automatics. The separate SRT record identifies its supercharged 6.2-liter configuration. These references identify factory versions, not the present output of a modified car.
For operation and maintenance, start with the 2023 Charger Owner's Manual and the applicable SRT supplement where relevant. Have the seller provide the documents matching the exact engine and equipment. Check the installed touchscreen, audio, cameras and assistance features instead of assuming the same technology appears on every trim.
Inspect the actual car before making the final comparison
- Request the original build details and available service, repair and modification records. Identify any change in engine software, exhaust, brakes, suspension or wheel/tire fitment.
- Arrange a qualified inspection of the car's condition, including tire and brake wear, fluid leaks, warning messages and evidence of previous damage. A styling badge does not document its mechanical history.
- Try seat access, visibility, parking and your usual passenger/cargo routine. Have installed equipment demonstrated while parked, then take an ordinary road test appropriate to the car.
- Compare written vehicle quotes on a consistent basis and resolve equipment or condition discrepancies before deciding. Confirm the physical location and current availability before traveling.
Is every 2023 Charger a V8?
No. The model-year selector includes 3.6-liter V6 cars as well as distinct V8 versions.
Does GT automatically mean AWD?
Do not assume it. Verify the actual drivetrain in the vehicle's factory documentation and listing.
Can a generic engine number verify a tuned car?
No. Ask for the installed parts, calibration records and applicable instructions. A factory rating does not establish a modified vehicle's output or remaining coverage.
